How It All Started
A very sick dog named Bongo inspired us to do something for the dogs of Costa Rica.
Bongo was found as a stray next to a bus stop on a busy street. When we found him, he was laying on the gravel floor in the scorching heat. He was full of sores, ticks and fleas, underweight, lethargic and frightened of us. He had no one except for us, and from that moment we knew we had to help him. If we didn’t, he would never survive. We brought Bongo to the local vet where they told us he was in very bad health and would need to start on IV fluids right away. Bongo stayed there for over a week and was diagnosed with an enlarged heart and cancerous tumors. Bongo's journey has just begun and we will be there for him every step of the way. We know he will only get stronger because he is a fighter and has the support of his Dog Tales Family.
Throughout the years, we have been made aware of the poor conditions of stray and roaming dogs of Costa Rica. Witnessing the bad conditions first hand and seeing Bongo’s state opened our eyes to this problem. The Dog Tales Team is currently on the ground in Costa Rica rescuing dogs from the street and shelters. All the dogs we have collected so far are in rough shape, very sick and will require tons of ongoing medical care. They have a long road to recovery, this is why we need your support.
Bongo’s story is only the beginning. Thanks to him, we are dedicated to help more vulnerable dogs. To begin, we plan to provide medical care and homes for 50 dogs that need help here in Costa Rica. We cannot do this alone, we need your help to share Bongo’s story and raise donations to fund this large rescue mission. This will not be easy as we know there will be extensive costs, challenges and it will take an emotional toll but we cannot look away from all the dogs that need us.
