about maddy
Maddy is a sweet senior girl who came to us when her owner became ill and could no longer provide the care she needed. Having spent her entire life as an outdoor dog since puppyhood, Maddy is now discovering the wonderful world of indoor living, and she's absolutely loving every moment of it. The simple pleasures of air conditioning on a hot day and sinking into a soft, comfortable dog bed have opened up a whole new chapter of comfort for this deserving girl.
What makes Maddy truly special is her enthusiastic approach to life's changes. This sweetheart gets genuinely excited about new experiences, greeting each discovery with the kind of joy that's both heartwarming and infectious. Her eagerness to embrace new things shows just what a resilient and adaptable spirit she has, even in her golden years.
Maddy is looking for a patient, understanding family who will take pleasure in showing her all the wonderful experiences she's been missing. There's something magical about watching a senior dog discover indoor comforts for the first time, and Maddy's new family will have the unique joy of witnessing her continued journey of discovery.
Maddy takes daily medication for osteoarthritis, primarily in her hips, and for hypothyroidism. She's doing well with her current treatment and remains comfortable and happy. Her hypothyroidism requires regular monitoring through blood work to ensure her medication dosage stays appropriate. Her future family should be prepared to continue her care and routine checkups to keep her feeling her best.
Maddy has also been diagnosed with Laryngeal Paralysis, a condition that affects her ability to breathe comfortably, particularly in heat or with exertion. Because of this, she must always be walked on a harness rather than a collar, and her outdoor time needs to be carefully managed — think short, calm, leisurely strolls rather than energetic adventures. Warm weather requires extra caution, as overheating can quickly become dangerous for her, so she does best in a home where her pace is respected and her environment stays cool and low-key. The good news is that Maddy is perfectly content with a quieter lifestyle — she's not asking for much, just a gentle routine and someone who understands her needs.
Maddy would do best as the only pet in the home. She is uncomfortable around other dogs and would truly flourish with the undivided love and attention of a family all to herself. Because Maddy can be touch sensitive at times, she is best suited for a household with teenagers or adults only — someone who understands the importance of reading her cues and giving her the space she needs to feel safe and secure. Her ideal family is calm, patient, and ready to let Maddy set the pace as she continues to settle into the comfortable life she so deeply deserves.
